The jury unanimously acquitted the principal defendant, represented by Michael Levy, in a momentous hijacking case following an eight week trial at the Central Criminal Court. This was the first case of hijacking of an international ship that had reached the criminal courts. Special forces were called as the alleged incident unfolded with the defendants threatening to kill members of the crew in a desperate bid to reach the UK from Africa. The trial included a number of legal arguments and considerations of international law.
